Hi! My name is Amy. I am fifteen years old, and I love animals. Every Saturday, I go to a local animal shelter to volunteer. It is a big, happy, but sometimes sad, place.

The shelter is home to many different animals. There are dogs, cats, and sometimes even rabbits. When I get there at nine o'clock in the morning, the first thing I do is feed them. I give the dogs dry food and the cats wet food. They are always very hungry!

After breakfast, it’s time to play. I take the dogs outside to the yard. We run and play fetch with a ball. The big dogs like to run fast, and the small dogs like to sit on my lap. The cats stay inside, but I play with them, too. I use a little toy mouse, and they chase it everywhere!

Cleaning is also a big part of my job. I clean their houses (we call them cages or kennels) to make sure everything is fresh and nice. This job is not easy, but it is important. Clean kennels keep the animals healthy.

Around noon, I help people who come to visit. They want to find a new friend. I tell them about the animals: "This dog, Lucky, is very friendly," or "This cat, Snowball, is very quiet." I hope every animal can find a loving home soon.

When I leave at three o'clock in the afternoon, I am tired, but my heart is full. I know I help these animals a lot. If you love animals, you can volunteer too! It’s a great way to spend your Saturday.
