My sister, Lily, and I visited the local animal shelter last Saturday. It was a big building with many different rooms. In one room, there were many small dogs. They were happy and jumped a lot when they saw us. In another room, we saw several quiet cats. They were sleeping in soft beds.
We also met a nice woman who works there. She told us about the animals. She said that all the animals need a loving home. We spent about an hour playing with a little black puppy. It had big, brown eyes and a short tail. Lily really liked it and wanted to take it home.
However, we know that having a pet is a big responsibility. You have to feed them, walk them, and take them to the vet. Our parents said we must wait until we are older and can help more. Maybe next year! Before we left, we gave the woman some money to help buy food for the animals. We felt good about helping the cute animals.
